Teaching Practice Survey
Developed through the BVA collaboration to measure faculty teaching attitudes, beliefs, and practices, this instrument integrates and adapts surveys that have been used previously at the University of British Columbia, the University of Kansas, and the University of Saskatchewan. This survey is being used by campuses participating in RAC 1.
Classroom Observation Protocol for Undergraduate STEM (COPUS)
Developed by a team of researchers from the University of British Columbia, COPUS will be used in RAC 1 to collect information about the types and frequency of teaching practices used in transformed classes.
Departmental Case Study Protocol
Within departments, the BVA is interested in promoting widespread change in teaching culture, which includes shared goals and vision, shared ownership of courses and responsibility for student learning, as well as support for teaching evaluations that value evidence-based teaching. Given the complexity of assessing department goals, vision and culture, the BVA is using a case-study method that has already been piloted in one department at the University of Kansas. The protocol includes questions for individual and group interviews with faculty, students, and other departmental and university leaders.
