Over the last month, BVA campuses have been collaborating to develop a concise resource for assessing student learning online, as many faculty will be doing this coming fall—and perhaps beyond. Online assessment presents a number of challenges but also opportunities to explore alternative approaches that provide rich information about what students know and that also deepen and extend their learning. The COVID pandemic makes these approaches especially timely, but they are relevant as well in the face-to-face settings we all hope to return to soon.
A PDF version of the resource is available, and a web-based version with active links and additional information will shortly be posted to the BVA website. Note that the web-based version is intended to be a living document to which we hope to add additional BVA examples.
The resource contains an opening statement of purpose; a set of concise design principles; a number of examples from BVA campuses; and links to tools and strategies developed by each campus for tackling online assessment.
