Description
The Equity-through-Inquiry effort began in 2020 as a working group to explore strategies to accelerate improvements in equity and inclusion in undergraduate education. The group has developed a project to foster institutional change through a department-centered organizational learning framework (self-assessment, reflection, and action). Specifically, we will (a) engage and empower faculty, staff, and students, particularly minoritized students, as partners in equity-centered organizational learning and improvement and (b) support academic departments in developing processes that work against inequities and can be directly integrated into organizational culture and structures. The intervention involves departments in an organizational learning cycle that we call Equity-through-Inquiry to transform educational practices and to center the voices and experiences of those students who are most impacted by inequities. The project will begin with development and pilot implementation in a small number of partner departments that will serve as “incubators” for equity- centered change processes that can readily adapt to the dynamic higher education ecosystem.
